Customs Boss, Bashir Adewale Adeniyi, Bags PhD Leadership and Security Studies
The Comptroller General of the Nigeria Customs Service (NCS), Bashir Adewale Adeniyi, has been conferred with a Doctor of Philosophy (PhD) degree in Leadership and Security Studies by the Federal University, Lokoja, during its 9th Convocation Ceremony held on October 18, 2025.
Dr. Adeniyi, who began his doctoral studies in 2022, was among the PhD graduands celebrated at the event. Born on January 19, 1966, in Modakeke, Osun State, he holds a B.Sc. in International Relations from Obafemi Awolowo University (formerly University of Ife) and a Master’s in Communication Science from the University of Lugano, Switzerland.
A distinguished officer, Dr. Adeniyi joined the Nigeria Customs Service in 1990 as a Cadet and has served in various strategic positions, including Customs Public Relations Officer, Deputy Commandant of the Customs Command and Staff College, and Area Controller of Murtala Mohammed International Airport Command.
He was appointed Acting Comptroller General by President Bola Ahmed Tinubu on June 19, 2023, and later confirmed as the 31st substantive Comptroller General of Customs in October 2023.
Throughout his illustrious career, Dr. Adeniyi has represented Nigeria in several World Customs Organisation (WCO) meetings and undertaken advanced international courses at Harvard University, University of California (UCLA), and Columbia University, among others.
A Fellow of the Nigerian Institute of Public Relations (NIPR) and the Nigerian Institute of International Affairs (NIIA), the CGC has received multiple awards, including the World Customs Organization Award of Excellence (2018), Distinguished Service Medal, and Member of the Order of the Federal Republic (MFR) in 2022.
His latest academic milestone adds to his impressive record of achievements, underscoring his commitment to leadership excellence, intellectual growth, and national service.
