FLOODING: Surveyors Partner Lagos Government, Leverage Technology Solutions
The Nigerian Institution of Surveyors (NIS), Lagos State branch, has reaffirmed its commitment to supporting the Lagos State Government in tackling the persistent challenge of flooding through the application of modern technology and continuous professional education.
At the 2025 Mandatory Continuing Professional Development (MCPD) held at the branch secretariat, the Vice Chairman, Surveyor Olukayode Ogundare, said the training, themed “Intelligent Flood Hazard and Vulnerability Mapping,” was designed to equip members with new technological tools for predicting and mitigating flood disasters in Lagos.
Ogundare emphasized that flooding is not solely a government concern but also a professional challenge for surveyors. He noted that leveraging Artificial Intelligence (AI) and other smart technologies would help experts provide accurate data for flood prevention and effective response.
He added that the institution’s policy of continuous training ensures that members remain updated with current trends and innovations that can guide government decision-making in flood management.
In addition to flood control discussions, participants were also briefed on the new tax reforms taking effect from January 1, 2026.
A Fellow of the Institute of Chartered Accountants, Mr. Abayomi Abiona, and the institution’s auditor, Mr. Sanya Alabi, enlightened members on compliance with the new law. They advised professionals to consider operating as limited liability companies to enjoy incentives and minimize tax burdens under the new regime.
The program reinforced NIS Lagos’ commitment to advancing professional competence, promoting sustainable urban planning, and contributing to government efforts to make Lagos safer and more resilient to flooding.
