Nigeria Calls for Global Solidarity, Climate Financing

Nigeria has called for renewed global solidarity and urgent action to address the growing economic, environmental, and social challenges confronting developing nations.

Speaking at the 19th Ministerial Meeting of the Coordinating Bureau of the Non-Aligned Movement (NAM) in Kampala, Uganda, on October 15, 2025, the Permanent Secretary, Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Ambassador Dunoma Umar Ahmed, emphasized the need for deeper cooperation among member states to achieve peace, security, and sustainable development.

Ambassador Ahmed urged developed nations to fulfill their $100 billion annual climate finance pledge and scale up funding to $1 trillion annually to help developing countries meet global climate goals. He highlighted Nigeria’s initiatives to mobilize private investment through green guarantees and the establishment of the National Credit Guarantee Company, aimed at de-risking investments in sustainable projects.

Reaffirming Nigeria’s stance on global justice, Ahmed reiterated the country’s support for Palestine’s statehood, calling for a two-state solution based on the 1967 borders, with East Jerusalem as its capital.

He also stressed the urgent need to reform global multilateral institutions, arguing that the current structure fails to reflect modern realities or ensure fair representation.

Nigeria, he concluded, remains committed to the founding principles of the Non-Aligned Movement and to building a world anchored on justice, equity, and shared prosperity.
