Nigeria Congratulates Malawi on Successful Inauguration of New President

The Federal Government of Nigeria has congratulated the Government and people of the Republic of Malawi on the successful and peaceful inauguration of His Excellency, Peter Mutharika, as the seventh President of Malawi. The inauguration took place on Saturday, October 4, 2025, in Blantyre, the nation’s capital.

In a statement issued by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs on Sunday, October 5, 2025, Nigeria commended the people of Malawi for their steadfast commitment to democracy, the peaceful transition of power, and the rule of law.

According to the statement, the inauguration marked a historic milestone in Malawi’s democratic journey, reflecting the resilience of its institutions and the collective will of its citizens.

“Nigeria shares in the joy and optimism of this new chapter for the Republic of Malawi. We are confident that under the leadership of President Peter Mutharika, Malawi will continue to record significant progress in its developmental agenda and in fostering unity and prosperity for all its citizens,” the statement read.

Nigeria also reaffirmed its commitment to strengthening the cordial and brotherly ties between both countries and expressed readiness to deepen cooperation in key sectors such as trade, agriculture, education, and security, for the mutual benefit of both nations and the African continent.
