Promise Made, Promise Kept: Ikeja Local Government Chairman Unveils Historic Back to School Program

It was a moment of jubilation in Ikeja on Monday as the Executive Chairman of Ikeja Local Government, Comrade Akeem Olalekan Dauda (AKOD), officially unveiled the Back to School Program 1.0—a groundbreaking initiative designed to boost educational standards and ease the financial burden on parents within the community.

The event, which marked the first of its kind in the history of Ikeja Local Government, was met with excitement by pupils, parents, and community stakeholders who described it as a true dividend of good governance.

Declaring the program open, the Council Manager, flanked by the management staff of the local government, delivered a warm welcome address, describing the initiative as a bold and people-centered intervention. He reaffirmed the staff’s commitment to supporting Chairman AKOD’s transformative vision for the local government.

In his keynote address, Chairman AKOD emphasized that education remains the bedrock for nurturing future leaders, reiterating his administration’s commitment to investing in the academic growth of Ikeja children. To ensure accountability and fairness in distribution, he revealed that each school would be served by a dedicated committee comprising the ward councillor, representatives of the Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN), the League of Imams, youth leaders, and the Community Development Associations (CDAs).

Representing Lagos State Education District VI, Mrs. Ayo-Vaughan Adeola praised Chairman AKOD’s foresight, describing the project as a massive intervention that will not only relieve parents of financial stress but also inspire pupils to excel in their studies.

In a touching highlight of the day, pupils expressed heartfelt gratitude to the chairman, praying for his good health, wisdom, and continued success in his leadership.

The ceremony was graced by all six councillors of Ikeja Local Government, led by the Leader of the Legislative Arm, Hon. Rasheed Adisa Ogunseye, who pledged unwavering legislative support for more people-oriented initiatives.

Delivering the Vote of Thanks, Vice Chairman Hon. Abisola Omisore extended appreciation to dignitaries, committee members, and community representatives whose participation ensured the success of the program.

The Back to School Program 1.0 has been widely hailed as a landmark achievement—reflecting Chairman AKOD’s philosophy of promise made, promise kept, and laying a solid foundation for the brighter future of Ikeja’s children.

God Bless Ikeja. Better Days Are Here.
