Tinubu Reshuffles Military Leadership, Appoints Oluyede New Service Chiefs
President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has approved significant changes in the leadership of Nigeria’s Armed Forces in a strategic move to further strengthen the country’s security architecture.
According to a statement from the Presidency, General Olufemi Oluyede has been appointed as the new Chief of Defence Staff, replacing General Christopher Musa.
In the new appointments, Major-General W. Shaibu becomes the Chief of Army Staff, Air Vice Marshal S.K. Aneke takes over as the Chief of Air Staff, while Rear Admiral I. Abbas assumes office as the Chief of Naval Staff.
The Chief of Defence Intelligence, Major-General E.A.P. Undiendeye, however, retains his position.
President Tinubu commended the outgoing Service Chiefs for their “patriotic service and dedicated leadership,” and urged the newly appointed officers to “justify the confidence reposed in them” by upholding professionalism, vigilance, and unity within the Armed Forces.
All appointments, the statement added, take immediate effect.
