United American Tribal Embassy International (UATEI) Nigeria Chapter Inaugurated in Abuja, Seeks Global Partnerships for Tribal Empowerment

A new era of collaboration and cultural inclusion began in Abuja as the United American Tribal Embassy International (UATEI) Nigeria Chapter was officially inaugurated at the in Abuja, with the theme: “Empowering Tribal Communities through Global Partnerships.”

The event, which drew dignitaries, scholars, and cultural advocates from across the country, underscored the importance of uniting indigenous communities through international cooperation and strategic partnerships.

Delivering the keynote address, Professor Hauwau Yusuf, Director of the Centre for Gender Studies, emphasized the need for deliberate efforts to empower tribal communities through global collaborations. She described such partnerships as “crucial instruments for inclusive and sustainable development.”

According to her, the newly inaugurated body represents “a bridge that connects tribal communities to global platforms, preserves cultural dignity, and creates pathways to modern prosperity.” Prof. Yusuf urged government agencies, academic institutions, and international organizations to integrate indigenous knowledge systems into national development strategies, noting that cultural preservation must go hand in hand with modernization.

In his opening remarks, the Prime Minister of UATEI Nigeria Chapter, Ambassador Abraham Kwaghfan, described the inauguration as “a historic milestone” in the journey toward empowering Nigeria’s tribal communities and strengthening their global representation. He noted that UATEI would work towards uniting tribal groups under one umbrella, fostering dialogue, peace, and socio-economic inclusion.

Also speaking at the ceremony, Grace Ike, representative of the Youth and Sports Development Secretariat, commended the initiative as “a living bridge connecting American tribal nations with Nigeria’s diverse cultures.” She pledged the Ministry’s continued support through youth-centered programs, cultural exchanges, and international collaborations that would expand opportunities for indigenous youths.

In her goodwill message, Ambassador Dr. Nkechi Obinna, Public Relations Officer of UATEI, hailed the establishment of the Nigeria Chapter as “a timely and progressive development” that would strengthen global recognition for local tribes and promote mutual understanding among nations.

The FCT Prime Minister of UATEI, Ambassador Dr. Muhammad Shuaibu Sanusi, lauded the organizers and participants, remarking that “it takes two to tango”—emphasizing the need for both local and international efforts in achieving true tribal empowerment.

The event, chaired by Ambassador General Paul Boroh, featured cultural displays, goodwill messages, and the formal investiture of the Nigeria Chapter’s leadership team.

Participants described the inauguration as a milestone in giving tribal communities a greater voice and visibility in both national and global development agendas. Many expressed optimism that the newly inaugurated UATEI Nigeria Chapter would play a pivotal role in bridging cultural gaps, fostering inclusion, and unlocking new opportunities for tribal communities across Africa.
